Home Automation Modifications - Pressure Mats
For those that are not familiar with the pressure sensitive mat, it can be purchased from Harbor Freight here. Simply cut off the alarm and wire it directly to a X10 DS10A Door and Window Sensor.
The one gripe I've had with the mat is it's size. There is so many places I would like to use them but they have been the wrong size and/or shape. Today I decided to take one apart and see what I could do about that!
I was very pleased to see that it is a very simple device that CAN be cut to any size and/or shape. Now I'm gonna have to buy more!

I then used an X-acto knife to cut around the edges and slid the materials out. I was very happy to see all that was in there was 2 sheets of foil paper, separated by a foam sheet!
The output wires are simply attached to each sheet. When the foam is compressed, contacted is made and the signal is sent.
This one sheet can now be cut into and shape and/or size you like. Just simply tape the edge all the way around your new size and connect wires if necessary.
