Home Automation Projects - Smart Key Holder

* Disclaimer: Please remember I am not responsible for anything you may destroy! (including yourself!) This is simply a project I took on in my own house that I thought some of you may enjoy. Proceed at your own risk. Thank you!

This project uses the DS10A mod.

I got the original idea from CocoonTech Forums. They had a great post on how to make this. For me, it never worked quit right. I had many false home/away reading until I added the modified DS10A. Now with the delayed off, I have no more false readings!

Here's how to make the smart key holder.

All that is needed is a board, some brass shoulder hooks or big cup hooks, and some modified DS10A's.

First thing to do is figure out how many keys rings you want to be able to hold. In my example I wanted to have 3. Each key ring will be held by 2 brass cup hooks. The cup hooks should be about 3/4" apart, spaced evenly across the board.

Next get your spacing right for the DS10A's, mark where you want the hole drilled for the wire too.

Now go ahead and pre-drill the holes for the cup hooks and also the wire hole to the DS10A's.

Strip the wire end to connect to the cup hooks. The wire should be stripped about 1" long. Feed this through the hole pre-drilled for the cup hook and wrap it around the screw part of the cup hook. Now just screw in the cup hook into the board. Do this for both cuphooks per set. The other end of the wire only needs about a 1/4" at the most stripped off, run that end through the hole to the DS10A and connect. It doesn't matter which wire goes where, just put them in and tighter the screws.

Now mount the modified DS10A's to the board, add the batteries and your done!

Have Fun!
