RFID

Towards the end of 2006 I found some cheap RFID devices on eBay. I posted the link to them on the Homeseer forums and asked if these could be used in Homeseer. Soon after that the buzz started and some great people stepped in and got this really going. Thanks especially to Piperpilot, Drozwood90 and Blade! With there help we now have a CheaperRFID Solution!

Antenna for use with RFID Receivers

Here is what I have done with these devices.

  •  Receiver Module - I have 2 of these, one at front and back doors. Each has been modified to use the antenna's made by WGL Designs.
  •  40m Transmitter Module - I have 2 of these, one in each vehicle, mod'd with the antenna's available on Piper's website. Cases are on dashboard of each vehicle.
  •  8m Transmitter Module - I have 3 of these, one for each person in house. Wife and Daughter have these in bottom of purses, mine is on keychain.
  •  BLRfid Plugin - I use Blade's plugin to track the devices and could not be happier. It works without question all the time.

With proper placement of transmitters and modified antenna's this is one great setup. I have no dropped signals and complete coverage of my house/driveway. BLRfid handles the 2 receivers perfectly, triggering the custom VB script build into the plugin. In my case, I have it welcome who ever is coming home with a nice random greeting, if we have emails, if there is mail in the box and more. All based on who's tag it see's coming home. The possibilities are endless!

The CheaperRFID Hardware can be found at CheaperTronics.com.
